The current roles in the 2025 Oxford Psychology Society have been filled. If you wish to join the committee, look out for the 2026 Oxford Psychology Society committee applications in autumn of 2025! Read the descriptions below if you would like to know more.
As the president of the society, you are responsible for making sure everything in the society's life runs smoothly. You are in charge of organising committee meetings as well as distributing responsibilities between the committee members. While everyone on the committee has their own role, it is not uncommon that committee members help each other out with their tasks, and you need to make sure that the workload is shared equally. You are also there to remind the committee members to complete their tasks in time and help them out whenever needed. Most importantly, you ensure that everyone on the committee is having a good time and is happy with their role :)
As secretary, you’ll handle essential administrative tasks to keep the Psychology Society running smoothly. This includes re-registering the society with the clubs office each year, maintaining and updating the society website, and serving as a point of contact for both external organisations and university admin. You will also maintain the mailing list up to date and send out emails to the society members. You’ll also assist with events when needed, whether it’s helping with logistics or ensuring everything runs smoothly on the day. The role offers plenty of variety and flexibility, giving you the opportunity to support the society in different ways throughout the year. If you’re organised, communicative, and eager to contribute behind the scenes, this is a great way to get involved!
As the society’s treasurer, you are responsible for the society’s finances. That includes setting up a bank account for the society and running the ticket sales for ticketed events. You will also be keeping track of all the profits and spending of the society and prepare reports for the Clubs Office to approve. The role requires a lot of responsibility, but you are gaining a valuable experience of handling finances.
As social media officer, you will be in charge of promoting all psychsoc events. This means making graphics for each event and posting them on different social media media platforms including Instagram and Facebook. You will also be responsible communications including discussing collaborations with other societies. It is a really fun and rewarding role so don’t hesitate to apply if you’re interested!
Being social secretary means you plan and organize various social events every term, from pub quizzes to formals to poker nights. It's a two-person role, which means you can distribute your workload evenly and take over when the other sec has too much on their plate. It's also an opportunity to meet people and organize psychology-related stuff, which means you get to both socialize and learn things! The workload is very low, and the most important thing is to have fun - no experience needed!
As speakers’ officer, you are responsible for organizing speaker events such as talks (basically the speaker equivalent of social sec). This involves selecting and contacting speakers, finding appropriate times and locations, sorting out logistics related to the event, moderating and promoting the event. Personally, I really enjoyed this role as it allows you to interact with really interesting speakers and gain perspectives that you don’t normally get through the curriculum.
The general member is the perfect role for anyone, who’s interested in joining the committee, but doesn’t have a specific role in mind. You will assist other members of the committee with a range of tasks, from booking venues to buying snacks and refreshments for the events. It’s a great opportunity to get to know the committee better and decide if there are any roles that interest you in particular for the future!
